Causes-
1. From the horrible impacts of the First World War, Britain was hoping for not another world war because it had a huge influence on them.
2. The traumas from World War 1 led many countries to avoid another war. Multiple leaders made comforting speeches giving their opinions to keep Hitler happy and not make him start another war.
3. The European countries were afraid of triggering a war with Hitler who was making military skills since he came into power. Plus, Europe was ready mentally or physically for another war with Germany.
4. German troops invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, triggering World War II. In response to German aggression, Great Britain and France declared war on Nazi Germany.
5. Nazi Germany possessed overwhelming military superiority over Poland.
Effects-
1. The invasion of Poland by Germany, led to World War 2, as then France and Britain helped defend Poland.
2. Europe tried to suck up to Hitler, by getting whatever he wanted. After his anger Austria and Czechoslovakia.
3. Hitler tried to get all German-speaking people under the German rule, which led to the final takeover of Austria.
4. Instituted in the hope of avoiding war, appeasement was the name given to Britain's policy in the 1930s of allowing Hitler to expand German territory unchecked.
5. Most closely associated with British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, it is now widely discredited as a policy of weakness.
