Beer Hall putsch (nov 8, 1923 – apr 19, 1930)
Description:
Causes-
1. Mussolini's march in the 1920s inspired the Beer Hall Putsch.
2. In 1923, the Nazi party had roughly 55,000 members, and it was the strongest it has ever been.
3. Hitler arranged to use Munich for a march on Berlin against the Weimar republic.
4. Germany was struggling with political and economic issues after World War I and the Treaty of Versailles. Many Germans were disappointed with the Weimar Republic, which they blamed for the countries problems.
Effects-
1. Hitler came into the hall fired a gunshot into the ceiling and stated a ‘national revolution’.
2. After the putsch had failed, Hitler was sentenced to 5 years.
3. Even though he had gotten sentenced, he soon escaped and then later on got arrested. He was charged with treason 2 days later after he was found.
4. Hitler spent less than a year in prison from April to December 1924.
5. Hitler was forbidden from speaking in public after the failed putsch. And the Nazi party was banned.
6. 16 Nazi’s were killed because there weren't enough weapons to take full control through the Beer Hall putsch.
7. While in prison following the Beer Hall Putsch, Hitler wrote a manifesto, "Mein Kampf" ("My Struggle"). In this book, Hitler outlined his political ideas, including his beliefs in Aryan supremacy, anti-Semitism, and the need for Lebensraum (living space) for the German people.
8. "Mein Kampf" became a foundational text for the Nazi Party and provided a blueprint for their future actions.
