German Appeasement (jan 1, 1933 – jan 1, 1937)

Description:

Causes:
1. Germany lost WW1, and due to unrest caused by the loss, along with The Great Depression, this left the Weimar republic in charge
2. This left room for new political parties to uprise due to a shared opinion of the Weimar Republic being “weak”. Hitler and the Nazi party were among these new parties
3. The Treaty of Versailles being signed by the Weimar republic left the citizens of Germany in unrest and some gained a dislike of the government meaning the citizens were in the search for someone new to come and “save” Germany.
4. Once the Nazi party was elected, they refused to work with other parties. This caused the job of governing Germany to be difficult
5. January 30th 1933, Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany by the president Paul von Hindenburg.
6. President Paul von Hindenburg then passed away in August 1934. Leaving the top person as Hitler which then allowed him to proclaim himself Fuhrer of Germany
7. On March 23rd 1933, the enabling act was passed which gave absolute power to Hitler
Effects:
1. On September 15, 1935, the Nuremberg Laws were passed which deprived Jews of Germany citizenship and barred them of having relations with anyone of “German blood”. These laws were passed because the German government were majority Nazi Party, however, Hitler made the ruling using the enabling act.
2. The persecution and ill treatment of Jews began to happen as a result of Hitlers beliefs being pushed on all citizens from Mein Kampf. This eventually led to execution in gas chambers and keeping Jews in concentration camps. Hitler was the reason for the Holocaust, with 11 million deaths overall.
3. Hitler having absolute power meant he controlled the military movements of the German army. Meaning he could order the German military to invade other countries without considering anyone else’s say.
4. This led to the invasion of Rhine and the eventual start of WW2
