Description:

The Treaty of Córdoba was the formal acknowledgment of Mexican independence. The treaty, signed by both Mexican and Spanish parts, renamed the nation to the Mexican Empire.

Th Mexican Empire was only a short transitional period before Mexico became an independent republic.

After the signing, however, the Spanish government refused to officially acknowledge Mexico as an independent sovereign state. Nonetheless, the treaty marked the end of the Mexican independence war.
