Iran Contra (apr 1, 1985 – apr 1, 1987)

Description:

-Reagan sells arms to Iran (fighting Iraq) in exchange for Iran to to talk to Lebanon about American hostages
- Members of Reagan staff used profits to give to Contras (anti communists trying to stop sandivists)
- BUT providing weapons to Contras is illegal under Boland agreement
- 1987: televised congressional hearings- Tower commission, Reagan didn't know but didn't do his job and stop it
-> several guilty verdicts
---> Reagan later pardoned by GHW Bush
