Expressionism (jan 1, 1905 – jan 1, 1925)
Description:
Expressionism was the idea that art should reflect the thoughts and feelings of the artist rather than being limited to show things exactly as they really look. It originated in Germany.
Under the Weimar government's freedom of speech and economic recovery, this flourished.
Communists said that government money should not be spent on extravagance when working people needed basic help. The nationalists and the Nazis said that the changes undermined traditional German culture.
