'New woman' (jan 1, 1920 – jan 1, 1930)
Description:
The 'new woman' was a feminist ideal. 'New women' would work, wear more revealing clothes, drink, smoke and have sex. While many men and women found it liberating, others found the change challenging, even threatening.
The birth rate was falling and the divorce rate was rising. Right-wing parties urged women to be mothers and wives, causing tension in society.
