Sino-Japanese War (jul 25, 1894 – apr 17, 1895)
Description:
Conflicts of interest in Korea between China and Japan led to the Sino-Japanese war. Japan defeated China, received Taiwan, but was forced by Russia, France, and Germany, to return other territories. The intervention caused the Japanese army to intensity their rearmament.
In the ensuing 1895 treaty with China, Japan forced China to renounce all claims to Korea, pay a substantial indemnity, relinquish Taiwan, and turn over the Liaotung Peninsula in southern Manchuria. Japan was quickly forced by Russia, France, and Germany to return the Liaotung Peninsula to China.
