Guadalupe Victoria, first President of the Mexican Republic (jan 1, 1824 – jan 1, 1829)

Description:

Joining the independence movement in 1812, Guadalupe Victoria was a notable soldier and political leader. Born Manuel Félix Fernández in 1786, he changed his name to Guadalupe Victoria to show his devotion to Mexican independence. From Hidalgo’s “Cry of Dolores,” the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe was adopted as a symbol of the insurgency. The Virgin is also the patron saint of Mexico.
