Description:
Japan had already invaded Burma and was getting ready to attack India & Australia
Turning point:
- Americans stop Japan in the Coral Sea
- sunk 4 Japanese aircraft carriers
***Aircraft carriers were new WWII "superweapons"
- the US had 3 of them and the Japanese did not destroy them because they were not at Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack
- conspiracy theory that FDR knew about the imminent Pearl Harbor attack but didn't prepare so people would go crazy about it
- then US begins island hopping
- begins with Guadacanal
