Description:
USSR:
- at first Stalin & the Red Army are not prepared
- use their "scorched earth policy"
- fall back and burn anything of value to the Germans to make survival harder for the Germans
Soviets suffer huge losses
- the siege of Leningrad lasted two years with 1.5 million Soviets lost (Germany blockaded city of Leningrad)
- barrier troops killed retreating soldiers on their own side because they were no longer honorable, fighting for the good of their country
