Description:

1932:
- Nazi Party becomes the largest in the Reichstag
- 37% of the vote


1933:
- Von Hindenburg (president of Germany) makes Hitler the Chancellor thinking he would be easy to control


Capital building (Reichstag) burns from fire:

- Hitler blames/accuses the communists and says he can stop them if he is voted

- people believe him and he gets support from the people

- Reichstag votes for him

- gets "emergency powers" meaning dictatorship for 4 years

- historians think that Hitler set the fire himself to create a problem that he could "solve" by blaming it on the communists


1934:
- Von hindenburg dies
- Hitler names himself "Fuhrer"
- Hitler creates a fascist state and becomes a permanent dictator
- Hitler abolishes freedoms
