Annus as high priest (for life) (dec 1, 4 – jan 1, 40)
Description:
Annus was the 1st high priest of the Roman occupation. Annas was deposed after the death of Augustus but he had 5 sons, who were appointed after him. Caiaphus was the only high priest NOT his son--but son-in-law.
Annus (Ananus) was referred to as high priest by Luke because it was a position to be considered "for life" according to Num 35:25, 28
