Nivelle Offensive (apr 16, 1917 – apr 29, 1917)
Description:
French commander-in-chief Robert Nivelle planned a series of small surprise attacks targeting the German line to bring an end to the three-year-long trench warfare stalemate. However, Germany caught hold of the plans and brought back their troops leaving treacherous territory between the two sides. Even with Britain’s help, France suffered over 130 thousand deaths (AspectsOfHistory.com).
