Debate
&
Declaration
of War (jul 13, 432 BC – jan 1, 431 BC)
Description:
Both the Peloponnesian league (Sparta & Corinth) & Delian League (Athens) had reasons of war against each other.
Corinth: Athens openly attacked their colony & aided its enemies.
Athens: Corinth & other outside forces openly supported a revolt of an 'allied' city.
However open conflict between both leagues was yet declared. What followed was a peloponnesian assembly discussing on whether the peace treaty between Athens & the Peloponnese was broken.
after the Peloponnese debate - Athenian delegations arrived & had their say.
The spartans voted that the treaty had been broken and that war should be declared - not because of allied demand but rather due to their own fear of Athenian growth & rivalry.
