The Battle of Midway (jun 4, 1942 – jun 7, 1942)

Description:

- The Battle of Midway was a five-day naval combat between US and Japanese troops that occurred in the middle of the Pacific and altered the course of the war in the Pacific in WWII.

- The Midway Islands in the Pacific Ocean, currently part of the United States, were the location of the battle of Midway, which lasted from June 4 to June 7, 1942.

- Since the war was short and only lasted 5 days, the casualties were not immense. While the United States lost about 362 soldiers, one carrier, one destroyer, and 144 aircraft, the Japanese suffered losses of about 3,057 men, four carriers, one cruiser, and hundreds of aircraft.

- The American victory at Midway was a significant triumph over the Imperial Japanese Navy. The majority of Japan's best trained naval pilots, along with its first-line carrier strength, were destroyed by the United States. With this crucial US victory, Japan's expansion in the Pacific came to an end, and the US was then able to start reducing the size of the Japanese empire through a years-long series of island-hopping invasions and several even larger naval battles.
