Roman Republic (jun 30, 509 BC – aug 7, 27 BC)

Description:

The Roman republic was a democracy of sorts. They borrowed heavily from Greece, especially Athens. It consisted of a council, a senate, tribunes, and citizen assemblies. However, only rich people could be in the senate, and only senators could be in the council. Poor people were only allowed to be tribunes, and tribunes were only able to voice their opinions and had no real power. The Roman Republic was essential in the making of Rome, but created problems between the classes. It relates to the key concept of the Development of Sates and Empires
