Between May 26 and June 4, 1940, more than 338,000 British and French soldiers were rescued from the French port of Dunkirk as part of Operation Dynamo, the evacuation from Dunkirk. The evacuation, often known as the Miracle of Dunkirk, significantly raised British spirits. The greatest obstacle, as Nazi objectives now moved toward Britain, was yet ahead, according to Prime Minister Winston Churchill. It is also estimated that around 22,000 allied troops were killed in the Battle of Dunkirk and around 2,000 civilians lost their lives.Added to timeline:
