Cuban Missile Crisis (oct 16, 1962 – oct 28, 1962)

Description:

This was a 13 day standoff between the Soviet Union, who was in aiding Cuba, and the United States. The Soviet Union had a close relationship with Cuba and after the United States’ failed Bay of Pigs invasion, Cuba allowed the Soviet Union to put nuclear missiles on their land. At the height of the Cold War, there was a threat from the Soviet Union that they were going to launch nuclear missiles at the US and this lead to a 13 day standoff between the two countries and it finally ended diplomatically with the Soviet Union agreeing to take their missiles out of Cuba if the US took their missiles out of some countries close to the Soviet Union. This is thought to be the closest that anyone has come to nuclear warfare.
