Berlin Airlift (jun 24, 1948 – may 12, 1949)

Description:

This began with the Berlin blockade, which was one of the first major crises of WWII when the Soviets blocked off all railways and roads to West Berlin, the area controlled by the allies. They had no way to get in and West Berlin was surrounded by the control of the Soviets. This meant that they had no resources such as food or other basic necessities. So, the Allies took action, sending in supplies in over 200,000 flights in 1 year, with over 8,000 tons of supplies a day. This saved the citizens in West Berlin as well as improved the morale of the Allies.
