Causes of the civil war (apr 12, 1830 – apr 12, 1830)
Description:
The presidential election of 1860 was a crowded one. But when Abraham Lincoln—the candidate from the newly-formed Republican Party—emerged as the winner, the nation started to split. By the time he took the oath of office, the Confederate States of America was already formed. It would be just over a month before the first shots were fired.
