Samerina (jan 1, 722 BC – jan 1, 609 BC)

Description:

Samerina was a province of the Neo-Assyrian Empire, established after the Assyrian conquest of Samaria in 722 BCE. This conquest dissolved the Kingdom of Israel, annexing Samaria as a full imperial province governed by an Assyrian-appointed governor.

For about a century, the Neo-Assyrian Empire's dominance remained unchallenged until the rise of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, leading to the collapse of Assyrian power by 609 BCE. Consequently, Assyrian territories, including Samerina, fell under Babylonian control.

Assyrian rule involved significant population transfers within Samerina and throughout the empire, with approximately 30,000 inhabitants deported to other regions and various peoples resettled within Samerina as part of Assyria's resettlement policy.
