Theodor Herzl (jan 1, 1860 – jan 1, 1904)
Description:
He witnessed mobs shouting " Death to Jews" in what was supposed to be the land of enlightenment and liberty, he concluded that anti-semitism could not be solved by assimilation into larger society. In 1896 Herzl published the pamphlet Judenstaat, which argued that the only defense against anti - semitism lay in the mass migration of Jews from all over the world to a land that they could call their own.
