Description:
1865-1877: The passage of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments abolished slavery, defined citizenship, and allowed Black men to politically participate, as a result of masses organizing politically to gain freedom and citizenship. Recontruction was ended with the Compromise of 1877.
