The Korean War (jun 25, 1950 – jul 27, 1953)
Description:
1. An estimated 4 million Korean and Chinese people died, and almost half of them were civilian. 339 Australian soldiers were killed.
2. The fighting stopped in July 1953, though the war wasn't fully resolved. Korea remains in two different states. There is still no peace treaty.
3. More than 40 United Nations countries sent help in some way, whether it was troops, equipment or other aid.
4. The city of Seoul changed possession 4 times during the battle.
5. Until the end of World War II, Korea was ruled by Japan.
