Description:
-George Washington-commander in chief
-continental army made up of undisciplined ameteurs
-internal division within the colonies
-loyalists (15-30%)-questioned if British policies justified rebellion (usually older and wealthier)
-patriots were also a minority
-during the American rev- French supplied supplies to the rebels and some Frenchmen even fought under Washington
-Treaty of Paris- signed in 1783- recognized independence of American Colonies
