Operation Danube (event 4) (aug 20, 1968 – sep 20, 1968)

Description:

Also known as the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia, Operation Danube was a joint invasion be five Warsaw Pact Nations. 250,000 Warsaw Troops were involved in the invasion that lasted one month. During Operation Danube, 108 civilians were killed and another 500 were wounded. The military action was an attempt by the Soviet Union to oust Czechoslovakia's Communist Party leader Alexander Dubcek whose plans s to reform his country did not aline with the Soviet Union's wishes.

As a result, anti-Soviet and anti-communist movements throughout Eastern Europe.
