The Regulating Act of 1773 (jan 1, 1773 – dec 31, 1773)

Description:

- British government involvement in Indian Affairs in the effort to control and regulate the functioning of EIC --> introducing an element of centralized administration
- Company directors --> submit all correspondence regarding revenue affairs, and civil and military administration to the government i.e 1st time British Cabinet was given the right to exercise control
- Bengal --> Administration to be carried out by G-G and a council consisting 4 other members(Warren Hasting+others)
- SC of judicature established with original and appellate jurisdictions --> debatable on council and it's jurisdiction
- G-G can exercise some powers over Madras and Bombay --> conflicting
- Whole system based on checks and Balances
- Prohibited the servants of the company from engaging in the private trade or accepting presents or bribes from the 'natives'
