saw the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel. He also faced challenges such as the Iranian Revolution and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.----
Wanted to put human rights at the center of US foreign policy => would cut military and financial aid to countries not respecting them => gros fiasco => didn't improve human rights + without US aid those countries fell to groups actively opposed to the US (pro soviets etc)
