Berlin Airlift (jun 24, 1948 – may 12, 1949)
Description:
The Berlin Airlift happened because the Soviet Union blocked off railways and roads leading to West Berlin. To get around this, the Allies (mostly US) started flying planes into West Berlin to help out the civilians. This was risky for both sides, as if the planes were shot down, all the tension from the Cold War would come to life.
