Reign of Peter I of Russia (may 1, 1682 – feb 1, 1725)
Description:
Peter I, also known as Peter the Great, was a very influential Tsar of Russia (which started as the Duchy of Moscow/Muscovy). He went to war with Sweden and the Ottomans in order to gain access to the sea, and also centralized the Russian government by building a strong military in which nobles were required to serve, and creating schools. He also sought to westernize Russia. Many Russians did not approve of his reforms.
