The Underground Railroad (jan 1, 1810 – jan 1, 1850)
Description:
This was a metaphorical railroad which led slaves to freedom (mostly in Canada) through a route of safehouses (path attached in image).
This was important because it gave the slaves the hope of freedom and increased the attention and awareness of the abolitionist movement, which helped fuel the civil war and the fight for slavery.
