Herod took control over Judea after capturing it from the Hasmonean's. His rule brought great wealth to the region of Judea. He is responsible for his expansion of the Temple in 19 BC.
After the death of Herod in 4 AD, his kingdom was split into provinces and were ruled by his sister - Salome I - and his children: Herod Antipas, Herod Archelaus, and Herod Philip II.
