Apries (Hophra or Waphres or Wahibre Haaibre) (jan 1, 589 BC – jan 1, 570 BC)
Description:
Jeremiah 37:5; 44:30; 46:17Apries allied himself with Zedekiah, king of Judah, in the hopes of defeating Nebuchadnezzar. Apries' armies somewhat succeed in pulling Nebuchadnezzar away from Jerusalem, but the Babylonians would come back just two years later and beseige the city again.
Jeremiah later prophesied to Zedekiah that Apries would fall to the hand of his enemies. In the year 570 BC, Apries died. According to Herodotus, Apries was strangled to death by some domestic enemies.
