Carthage (jan 1, 814 BC – jan 1, 146 BC)
Description:
Originally a Phoenician colony, Carthage would grow to be a mighty force in the western Mediterranean with colonies of its own.
At its peak they would control much of Sicily, Sardinia, Spain and North Africa though bit by bit this would be taken by the growing Roman Republic.
Its potentially legendary founder was the Queen Dido, the beautiful daughter of a king of Tyre.
Carthage would ultimately be defeated after several bloody struggles with the city razed to the ground by the Romans after the 3rd Punic War.
