An early example of a constitutional monarchy, the Hittites were one of the major civilizations of of the Ancient world and were the dominant power in the Near East. For centuries they were in almost constant conflict with the Egyptians and the Assyrians.
Known for their expertise with chariot-based warfare, the Hittites were much feared and their legacy lived on in many works.
