Mauryan Empire (jan 1, 322 BC – jan 1, 184 BC)
Description:
Taking full advantage of the power vacuum caused by Alexander the Great's death and the ensuing instability across his empire, Chandragupta Maurya expands his empire across the North of India. He conquers existing empires such as the militaristic Nanda Empire and conquers or buys much of the land around the Indus Valley and beyond. In time he and his successors take control of much of the subcontinent.
Perhaps their most famed and revered leader was Ashoka, known as both a great and talented warrior but also a just leader and one who eschewed violence in later life.
It would continue to exist albeit with increasing decentralisation until the 2nd century BC.
