Description:
Japan, under the leadership of the Tokugawa Shogunate, eschews foreign intervention and becomes largely isolationist.
Ultimately the massive growth in European Empires destabilized East-Asia and Japan is forced to open its borders to trade by Commodore Matthew Perry of the United States Navy. The Tokugawa Shogunate is overthrown and replaced by central authority around Emperor Meiji who embarks on massive reform programs.
