Description:

Originally a Welsh family, the Tudors surged in influence after the marriage of Owen Tudor to Catherine of Valois, Princess of France and widow of Henry V.

Henry Tudor, the son of Owen's son Edmund and his wife Margaret Beaufort had a somewhat tenuous claim to the English throne. Nonetheless after the deaths of Henry VI and his only son Edward of Westminster, he became the Lancastrian claimant to the English throne during the wars of the Roses.

After defeating Richard III of York at the battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, Henry Tudor became Henry VII, King of England and his dynasty would rule for over 100 years.
