Joe Darke Killings (aug 17, 2014 – feb 21, 2015)
Description:
Five murders were committed by Joe Darke with an attempted sixth murder of Ema Skye. These were known by the public as the Darke Killings.
- The victims were, in no particular order: Edward Jones, Jason Knight, Edith Kirby, Rachael Moss, and Jeb Bates.
- According to accounts, Joe Darke hit his first victim with his car. While burying them, he killed his second victim because they witnessed his actions. He then killed his third victim for the same reason, then the fourth victim, then his fifth victim.
- Lead investigators were Damon Gant & Lana Skye. Other investigators were Bruce Goodman, Angel Starr, and Jake Marshall. Neil Marshall was set to prosecute Darke's trial.
- While it is unknown why, Darke turned himself in to police custody. Damon Gant and Neil Marshall interrogated him the night he turned himself in, which also happened to be the night of a thunderstorm. During a disruption and power outage, Darke managed to escape and a manhunt was underway throughout the police department. Darke happened across Gant's office where Ema Skye was waiting for her sister and was about to kill her too, but Neil caught him before he could. Neil and Darke were engaged in a struggle after, but Ema tackled them out of fear and all three fainted.
- Damon Gant arrived at the scene shortly after and decided to arrange the scene for future exploitation. He killed Neil by impaling him on a model, then framed Ema for it by forging evidence. He then left the scene and waited for Lana Skye to find it, at which point he would return and "forge the scene" with her to help keep Ema safe. Gant would then use this as blackmail against Lana and plant her in the Prosecutor's Office as a means of controlling LA's justice.
- Miles Edgeworth prosecuted Joe Darke for the murder of Neil Marshall and successfully acquired a guilty verdict, but he unknowingly used forged evidence to do so. Despite being suspected of his other crimes, Edgeworth technically convicted Darke as an innocent man since he wasn't responsible for Marshall's death. Lana Skye was responsible for the forged evidence that was used to convict: the knife tip of Darke's knife lodged in Neil's torso.
