Second Wave (jul 1, 1918 – oct 1, 1918)

Description:

By mid-August, the second wave was deemed ‘a highly infectious flu, with sudden onset and an alarming propensity for pneumonic complications’. It spread around France.
It was in Europe that spread it further to North America, with the wave being established in most major cities.
Unlike previous patterns, it stuck the Northern hemisphere. This was why by October, it was the worst in countries as far apart as South Africa, Japan, China, Peru, Greece and Italy. The worldwide death toll may have been as high as 50 million.
