THE DARK ERA (jan 1, 900 BC – jan 1, 1 BC)

Description:

The church of the Sacred Flame rarely speaks of this era, as it is the period of the Arcane Empire.

It is widely known that powerful arcane sorcerers ruled the world and enslaved most of the population.

The powerful ritual known as "The Miracle" was designed to eradicate the history of this time period. The church's official position is:

"The world has moved into the Era of the Light and the church has been tasked with teaching all humanoid-kind a better path forward ... a path into the Divine Light. The only lesson to be learned from this time is documented in the Holy Text, Song of Fire. That lesson is: Arcane magic, uncontrolled, leads to darkness."

Most of the fantastical Arcane Cities were destroyed in Saint Tarna's War. Idols, statues, and the like were reduced to rubble after the last Sorcerer-king fled. The Church ordered all signatures of the Arcane Empire be "reduced to sand." Because of this, ruins from the Dark Era are hard to come by, although in far-flung places they exist.
