Charlemagne was the ruler of MOST of Western Europe from the year 768 to the year 814. The Franks were a Germanic tribe in Belgium. Also, in France, West Germany, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. As he ruled, he was the first to conquer most of Western Europe.
