Columbus Sails the ocean Blue (jul 1, 1492 – jan 1, 1504)
Description:
In 1492, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella approved of Christopher Columbus' voyage to Asia. Columbus led 3 ships; The Nina, The Pinta and the Santa Maria across the Atlantic Ocean. After 1 month of sailing, Columbus and his crew landed in the Bahamas. Columbus thought he had reach Asia but he called this new land the Indies and the natives, Indians.
On Columbus' second trip, he said with 17 ships to find gold and capture Indians, and on this voyage he found the island he named Dominica.
On his third trip in 1498, Columbus spotted the coast of South America.
On his fourth and last trip in 1502, Columbus sailed to central America and Jamaica to find a water passage that connected the Indies with the Indian Ocean. However, he and his crew ran into many problems and returned home without finding the passage he was looking for.
