The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (dec 25, 1979 – feb 15, 1989)

Description:

The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979 and after 10 years, they withdrew due to continued efforts of anti-communist rebels, Mujahadeen, supported by the United States. Although this happened before Reagan was elected, this invasion plays an integral role as this event increases Reagan's determination to stop spreading communism, as a sudden increased investment in US military is observed during the Reagan administration, including the initiative of SDI (Strategic Defense Initiative).
