Arab-Israeli War (may 15, 1948 – mar 10, 1949)
Description:
Surrounding arab leaders after gaining independence from the British colonialism began to rally. Participants included:
- Jordan
- Egypt
- Syria
- Lebanon
- Iraq
A major war was fought to retaliate against the massacres and apparent genocide of the Palestinians both muslims and christians.
The war was short lived with Israel coming out victorious and further encroaching on Palestinian land.
They took the majority of the west bank included the once was international state of Jerusalem and stole large portions of Gaza creating what is now known as the Gaza Strip.
This war came with a result of:
- 530 villages massacred
- Over 13,000 Palestinians killed
- Over 750,000 expelled
This created a massive refugee population in which most Palestinians fled to surrounding countries or further inland into whatever territories remained to the Palestinians
