Reagan's presidency (jan 20, 1981 – jan 20, 1989)
Description:
Under Reagan, the United States committed itself to largest peacetime military buildup in its history. Reagan dedicated billions of dollars to the development and production of B-1 and B-2 bombers, MX missile systems, and other projects. Reagan was equally determined to defend American interests in the Cold War. He believed in a tough approach toward the Soviet Union, which he called an "evil empire." He favored large defense budgets to strengthen both conventional military forces and the nuclear arsenal.
