Operation Rolling Thunder (mar 2, 1965 – nov 1, 1968)
Description:
This bombing campaign was a response to the Viet Cong attack on the U.S. airbase at Pleiku. Johnson hoped to boost the morale in South Vietnam while destroying their will to fight. Despite North Vietnam's lack of an air force, their defense was very effective against the aerial strikes. Using missiles and artillery, the North Vietnamese shot down numerous American aircraft during the bombing raids. This bombing lasted three years and was halted in the fall of 1968.
