Third Crusade (may 11, 1189 – sep 2, 1192)
Description:
Third Crusade to the Holy Land in response to the Fall of Jerusalem in 1187, when Balian of Ibelin surrendered the city to Saladin. Famous for the battles that took place between Richard I (The Lionheart) of England and Saladin of Egypt and Syria. Resulted in the Treaty of Jaffa (1192), which recognized the Muslim claim over Jerusalem in exchange for the permittance of Christian pilgrims and merchants to the city. Lasted from May 11th, 1189, to Sep. 2nd, 1192.
