Reign of Terror (jan 1, 1793 – jan 1, 1794)
Description:
The bloodiest portion of the French Revolution; as many as 30,000 French citizens were executed by the Committee of Public Safety by Maximillien Robespierre; the reason of this was that the leaders of the French Revolution had rpomised the commoners and sans-culottes equality for all under the law and no more economic abuse by the government; when these promises were not kept, the masses felt cheated and there was a cry for blood; no one was safe; aristocrats began to fear a revolution within their own country and began to tighten the restrictions on their own people which ironically led to more revolutions
